Best Dressed 2011 | Slinky Fringe to Celebrate 2012

My precious orchid captured by my new precious camera . . . bring on the New Year!

I am in love with my new canon 60D camera. Perhaps even more special are the first ever long awaited blooms from my lovely orchid plant. Four blooms to be exact, the first started only a few weeks before Christmas and the last bloomed on Boxing Day. Orchids rarely bloom - in case you were wondering. It's like a Christmas/Birthday/New Year miracle. So for my first photo shoot it seemed only appropriate to capture my very own budding rare rebirth. Here's hoping 2012 brings everything 2011 didn't! Happy New Year!

Jay-Z and Kanye paid 6 million dolla bills to play sweet 16...wtf

Jay-Z and Kanye West were paid no less than $2.9 million each to perform at a ‘Sweet 16’ birthday party for the daughter of an Emirati billionaire. The event, which took place two weeks ago, but details of which have only just been revealed, saw The Throne being flown out to Dubai for the party and perform various tracks from Watch the Throne as well as a number of their own individual hits.
Honestly wow! Too much money going to ridiculous things ya'll. A sweet 16? Really? My sweet 16...consisted of, well I can't even remember. So it obviously was not memorable enough to be considered sweet, and I definitely can say Jay an Ye were not there. That shit CRAY.

New!!! The Weeknd "Echoes of Silence" Mixtape

Just released last night (December 21st) the 9 track Mixtape "Echoes of Silence". It is the final Mixtape of The Balloons trilogy. This Mixtape covers a classic/my favourite Michael Jackson track, delivers more unique tracks paired with beautiful vocals and lyrics, and is sprinkled with some french flavor. It's packed with substance.
I love The Weeknd - really what is not to love? The Balloons Mixtape trilogy was ended with a bang, and perhaps my favourite Mixtape yet.

What a delightful early Christmas/Birthday present! :)

You can listen to it here on soundcloud...

Or Download it on their website...

Enjoy! xo

Blu & Exile - "Give Me My Flowers While I Can Smell Them" LP

A new Blu & Exile LP. Recorded in 2009, here is "give me my flowers while i can smell them". Let that title marinate for a minute. These dudes have been making some amazing music for years now, and much of it for free. In my opinion, they both deserve much more praise than they’ve received, but for now you can give them their flowers in the form of a $15 purchase. If you need reassurance that it’s worth your dollars (it is) you can stream it here first then buy it....

Holiday loves and lusts list...

As Christmas quickly approaches I've taken some time to ponder the things I am gratefully in love with, and some things I am lusting for and of course would be grateful for. ha!...

My lovely Pandora bracelet, all the charms mean something to me. It's like wearing a piece of your identity...

Candles, I love candles. Especially around the holidays. This one is very festive "Sugar Cookie". It smells like heaven...

My new Birthday Present - Canon 60D camera, too excited...

Love love love "The Book of Awesome", so I went out and bought the second edition - "The Book of (even more) Awesome". I also found the holiday edition "Book of Awesome" which I picked up for a friend. Of course my Ipod and "Beats" ear-buds combo, go with me everywhere and am grateful for year round...

My Liquitex Professional Acrylic paints. YES!...

...and last but certainly not least, probably what has put the most joy and smiles on my face - my very own orchid plants beautiful blooms! FYI Orchids never bloom! People usually kill them, and even if they don't they rarely bless you with a bloom. It has to mean something special! It's my 25th Birthday on the 25th (Champagne Birthday), it's Christmas and a fresh year is around the corner. This Orchid is on to something, I just know it :) ...

Now my lusts are...

Of course the Ipad2...

and/or the macbookpro...

Those are the BIG ones :)

Of course my wish list wouldn't be complete without something from Coach. Coach is my addiction - some of you know that already. This bag was designed for Coach by a fellow blogger, it's simply amazing with secret pockets for your camera and shoes...

uhmmm I don't know how else to put this so I will just post these two sites...

...yes I do mean everything from JCrew and Tiffany & Co. is usually on my wish list. ha!

Downhill SKI BOOTS, probably not ones this nice but something so I can hit the hill!...

hmmm other than diamonds always being a girls best friend, that is really about it :)

Merry Christmas!!

From one friend to another . . .

A friend of mine shared this lovely poem with me, and now I am sharing it with you...

Vertigo by Anne Stevenson

Mind led body
to the edge of the precipice.
They stared in desire
at the naked abyss.
If you love me, said mind,
take that step into silence.
If you love me, said body,
turn and exist.

Thanks to my lovely friend who shared with me, you know who you are. *winky winky. :)  xo

Lauryn Hill Unplugged - Interlude 5 | Talks Truth

I was listening to Lauryn Hill's "Unplugged" today while I was painting, which I do more often than not when I am painting and this interlude just hit me. The whole live performance album speaks to my soul but something about this interlude just got me today. So much truth and honestly about everything from her music, to her relationships, and just life in general. She is so raw and in love with reality. It's refreshing to hear. I wanted to share it with ya'll, Enjoy...

This album is one of my favourites if not my all time favourite and it still teaches me something every time I listen to it, and I listen to it a lot. So if you haven't heard the album, get it, listen to it, YouTube it. I know I may have mentioned Lauryn and this album before, but it's a staple in my life. Happy listening and learning. :)

Dr.Pimp Himself | Talent + Comical Creativity + Inspired by Rap and Sex = Art

This unique artists hales from Germany, to create something fresh, completely different, and undoubtedly interesting - from older classic portraits, to fantasy illustration, to new radical comic characters, and even touching on political comics. He is diverse with no limits - which I love. We chatted about his creations and inspirations...

Where are you from originally?
I am actually a pure German straight 2 the bone. I was born in raised in Cologne - The Westside of Germany, in a block called Bocklahoma these days. Now I live in Wuppertal, DoubleUupperValley known as "Fabulous Wutal".

How long have you been doing art/comics?
I made my first comic at the age of 11. It was about climate change, ozone decreasing environmental story mixed with strange story of a time portal build up by the Maya. Very sick story and the character already looked somehow like Dr. Pimp.
The second comic was a collaboration with Marcus who is now working as a chief engineer for LEGO. Japp Japp and I developed my current style in 2001/2002/2003.

What inspired you to create your characters and art?
Mostly I am inspired by sexuality and rap. I am not sure, what influenced me more. But I adopt the typical work flow of using raps. Just see a portion of music and straight react on it. At the moment I just let myself go on portraying rap stars, when I hear a certain song. Right on from this moment I got a clear picture, how an illustration will look at the end.

Who are your favourite rap artists?
Speedball Jordan, Dre D, E-40, Too Short, Ice Cube, Cali Bear Gang, Yung Gatlin, Redman, Easy E, Geto Boys etc far 2 much 2 mention all.

What is the concept behind Dr. Pimp?
Its a complete new art project just combining music and illustration artwork just to achieve new goals like in the beginning days of hip hop with the challenge to form completely new combination in media. Combined with video also. That's the concept - word up. Dr. Pimps Lab is not just my own site as an artist - its more Dr. Pimps website and he is from Transylvania, Romania.

Cool so he's like a created character? Or alter ego?
Indeed he is a created character nothing in common with me naw.  http://drpimpslab.com/

Dr. Pimps Four Man Crew

Did you study art formally or have any classic training?
I never studied art, I studied Psychology. I am a psychologist with a diploma, no one never ever told me how 2 draw - I am a complete autodidact. But I was inspired by comics of mostly Robert Crumb. Ohh man I adore that shit. For me Robert is definitely the best illustrator of the decade. Moreover I was a fiend of Alex Raymond, Jean Claude Mezieres, Enki Bilal and the fabulous Don Lawrence "Storm" one of the best made comic series. Japp Japp that was my artificial world of mind. Straight 2 the brain.

Have you had any shows of your work? Where can people see more of your work?
I had a gallery in 2007/09 I think it was - but it was not my business. I don't have the right target group here in my hometown, so I prefer using facebook http://facebook.com/drpimpslab and http://drpimpslab.com/ the magazine I am working for as chief editor together with a German rap artist known as "Seng".

You can see more information and work by "Stefan" who also goes by "Where Wolf" - but prefers to stay anonymous using Dr. Pimp and his lab to produce his artistic creations - on the above mentioned links.

Talib Kweli - Distractions | Upcoming Album "Prisoner of Conscious"

Talib Kweli releases the first single,"Distractions" off of his forthcoming solo album,"Prisoner of Conscious". Prisoner of conscience (POC) is a term defined in Peter Benenson's 1961 article "The Forgotten Prisoners" often used by the human rights group Amnesty International. It can refer to anyone imprisoned because of their race, religion, or political views. It also refers to those who have been imprisoned and/or persecuted for the non-violent expression of their conscientiously-held beliefs. Clever, meaningful, modern title for an album. I love this track. I love Talib and what he's got to say. In an ocean full of dolphins pretending to be sharks he's a shark disguised as a dolphin - smarter, sharper, underrated, and underestimated...
